SAASA, stands for the Safe Abortion Alliance of southern Africa. We are a feminist alliance building partnership based on reproductive justice throughout the SADC southern African development community. Initiated in 2023, SAASA seeks to expand safe abortion provision through coordination, advocacy, training and education, as well as policy and legislative reform. To date we have members in ten countries including, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Madagascar, South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. We view increased access to safe abortion provision as central to sexual reproductive health rights, and reproductive justice and find conservative patriarchal views prevent full bodily autonomy.
