SRJC Announcement: Global Gag Rule impact in South Africa

The SRJC has been inundated for requests for interviews on the impact of the US gag rule. As a coalition we do not accept US funds. Many of our 160 members have been affected, some have signed the pledge and are still members of the SRJC, some have not and are trying to raise funds from elsewhere, others are retrenching staff as they refuse to not be able to do work is consistent with the SA legal framework.

Our research working group, headed by Prof Catriona Macleod at the Centre for the Studies of Sexualities and Reproduction (CSSR) at Rhodes University, have completed a study in collaboration with US groups – IWHC and CHANGE – for more information please contact them .

It is important to note that abortion is not a form of contraception and is a reproductive health procedure in its own right, as such South Africa has a distinct understanding of reproductive justice.
