Thandeka Chauke

Deputy Chairperson

Thandeka is a human rights lawyer and social justice advocate with a strong focus on statelessness, immigration justice, refugee and migrant rights, and sexual and reproductive health rights. Currently, she holds the position of Statelessness Project Manager at Lawyers for Human Rights in South Africa, where she leads initiatives addressing statelessness and access to legal identity. Thandeka is also the administrator of the Southern African Nationality Network, a regional collaboration among civil society organizations dedicated to combating statelessness in Southern Africa. In addition, she serves as the Deputy Chair on the board of the Sexual and Reproductive Justice Coalition. Thandeka’s exceptional commitment to creating positive change has been recognized through her participation as a former Mandela Washington Fellow, a prestigious program supporting young African leaders. She possesses a solid academic foundation, having earned a Bachelor of Social Science in Economics and a Bachelor of Laws from Rhodes University. To further deepen her expertise, Thandeka is currently pursuing an MSc in International Human Rights Law at Oxford University.
